Danson, John, of Mockerkin in Loweswater (died 1687)

Danson, John, of Mockerkin in Loweswater (died 1687)

Son of William Danson of Mockerkin.

He was possibly a Quaker. There is no evidence in his will as such, but he was buried at Pardshaw. It's quite possible that his wife Janet was convinced, but that he wasn't

His three elder children were William, John and Jacob. The rest were minors at his death: Isabel, Barbara, Sarah and Mary.

The family finances, already looking wobbly under his father, had got distinctly worse by his own death. An inventory of £53-3-9 against debts of £38-2-6 is something you might expect from a young man starting out with a new family, but not someone of his age (around 60 years of age). Having a young brood of daughters wasn't likely to help the next generation either.

Barbara married John Pearson (late of Graythwaite) in 6-iv-1695 in a Quaker ceremony at Pardshaw Cragg. The use of the word 'late' suggests that he had already moved to Mockerkin. Their son Joseph was born 08-iii-1696.
