Tiffin, John, of Mockerkin in Loweswater (-1701)

Yeoman. Son of John Tiffin of Mockerkin.

John Lancaster of Ullock described'John Tiffin of Mockerkin' as his son-law, in his 1658 PCC will. Presumably this one, as his father died in 1656.

A leading Quaker minister. He went to Ireland in 1654 to assist William Edmundson in creating a meeting at Lurgan. The story is told that the sailors at Whitehaven refused to carry him; so he walked to Liverpool and from there to Bristol. He accompanied John Burnyeat to Westmorland, Yorkshire and London in 1675 and to Scotland in 1684. In 1695, he accompanied James Dickinson on his travels.

He had at least one son, Thomas (a minor and beneficiary in his grandfather's will) - but I haven’t yet looked at his will.
