22. Robert WASDALE, son of Nicholas WASDALE jnr and Unknown BRAITHWAIT ?, was born in 1600 (approx.) in Wasdalehead. In 1650 he was a Bayliffe to the Baron of Egremont in Copeland. He died on 14 January 1654/55 in Wasdalehead. He was buried on 17 January 1654/55 in Eskdale. He married Elizabeth UNKNOWN.
1. Robert Wasdale who had been appointed Bayliffe to the Baronry of Egremont for the district of between Esk & Ehen, he left a comprehensive Will which was proven in the Probate Court at Canterbury.
2. He died without any surviving issue
3. His cousin John Braythwaite of Seathwaite in Borrowdale was appointed his heir at law
4. He mentions many people in the Will including his two sisters in law - Isabell Sotle and Jane Singleton these are a real puzzle !
5. At the start of his Will he leaves £10 to each of the 16 children as follows:
(a) Children of William Frears late of Ravenglass
(b) Children of Thomas Solto late of Barrow in Muncaster parish
(c) Children of William Singleton deceased of Stainton in Millom parish
(c) Children of John Filborbo
6. A possible explanation for the two sisters-in-law is as follows: Two brothers of Robert had married an Isabell and a Jane. The two brothers had died and their widows had re-married - Isabell Wasdale to Thomas Solto and Jane Wasdale to William Singleton.
7. Robert left money to the poor resident in his district, as follows Wasdalehead £10; Netherwasdale £10; Eskdale £20; Langdale £20; Borrowdale £20; Ennerdale £20 and Gosforth £20.
8. His two servants - Robert Wasdale & Charles Harrison.
8b. Refers to his property at Howes in Eskdale. Is this where his servant Robert Wasdale lived in Eskdale.
9. Susan Wilson and Robert Wilson the son of Thomas Wilson of Wasdalehead
10. William Jackson, Keeper. This could be reference to the Keeper of the Lords Deer held in two Deer Parks at Wasdalehead.

Robert Wasdale of Downydale in Wasdalehead and Elizabeth his now wife - were involved in the sale of Parkhouse in the Manor of Muncaster in 1619.

Elizabeth UNKNOWN died on 21 September 1647 in Wasdalehead. She was buried on 24 September 1647 in Eskdale.
In her burial entry she is refered to as the wife of Robert, Bayliffe.
She may well have been an Elizabeth Braythwaite of Borrowdale.

67. Ann WASDALE, daughter of John WASDALE and Ann VICARS, was born on 14 November 1764 in Wasdalehead. She died on 29 November 1858 in Netherwasdale.
Ann became the owner of Bowderdale on the death of her brother Aaron in 1837. Miss Mary Ann (or Nanny) Wasdale who died aged 94 was the last member of the Wasdale family who was born, lived and died in the valley. Over 200 mourners who had the traditional funeral fayre of 'spiced broth' that was served to all neighbours & friends present attended her funeral and tea.
68. Agnes WASDALE, daughter of John WASDALE and Ann VICARS, was born on 17 March 1767 in Wasdalehead.
69. John WASDALE, son of John WASDALE and Ann VICARS, was born on 27 September 1772 in Wasdalehead. He was a Labourer. He married Eleanor VALENTINE on 2 July 1797 in St.Bees, Cumb. He died on 4 June 1848 in St.Bees.
In his Will made in April 1848 he mentions:
