62. William BURNYEAT, son of Daniel BURNYEAT and Isabella WALKER, was born in 1875 in Whitehaven. He married Agnes Gowan of Whitehaven in Alaska, North America. He died in 1912 in Whitehaven. He was buried in Holy Trinity, Whitehaven.
William went to Canada in 1893 to participate in the Klondiike gold rush but stayed on for 13 years in Alaska working as a contracter in the timber trade. It was illness that forced him back home to Whitehaven in Sept. 1912. Details from the Death Notice in the local paper.
63. John Spencer BURNYEAT, son of Daniel BURNYEAT and Isabella WALKER, was born in 1876 in Whitehaven. He was a District Supervisor for Insurance Company. He married Clara PEARSON in 1908 in Northwhich, Cheshire.

64. Ernest BURNYEAT, son of Daniel BURNYEAT and Isabella WALKER, was born in 1881 in Whitehaven. He was a Saddler & Leather Goods maker and dealer. He married Edith MAYOR in 1912 in Kendal RD.. He died in 1937 in Whitehaven.
He had a shop at 1 King Street in Whitehaven & later he moved on to Roper Street. This saddlers business first appears in the Whitehaven Trade Directories in about the 1924 / 1926 period.
Back in the late 19th Century, it was Roan’s (of Whitehaven), who were proving commercial pace-setters in the town. The late Mr John Roan set up the original saddlery and leather shop in Roper Street then 39 Market Place. This also included workshops, where every variety of harness and saddles (upwards of 1,000 sets being turned out annually) were manufactured together with horse clothing, portmanteau, waterproofs and footballs !
When John Roan retired through ill health shortly after the 14/18 war, the Burnyeat family took over the running of the business, first with Mr Ernest Burnyeat and, subsequently, his brother, Tom, whose widow and daughter, Mrs Marjorie Clarke, were both directors of the company.
Ernest was a great-nephew to William Burnyeat (1819 - 1894 ) the Whitehaven / Liverpool ship owner and ships chandler.

67. William John Dalzell BURNYEAT, son of William BURNYEAT and Sarah Frances DALZELL, was born in 1874 in Whitehaven. He was a Barrister & MP & J.P. He married Hildegard RETZLAFF in 1908 in Berlin. He died on 8 May 1916 in Moresby House, Whitehaven.
He was a Barrister in the 1911 census. He was the managing director of the Distington Hematite Iron Co., Ltd., a director of the Workington Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., and was associated with other industrial enterprises in the district.

WILLIAM JOHN DALZELL BURNYEAT died at his residence, Millgrove, near Whitehaven, on May 8, 1916, at the age of forty-two.
He was the managing director of the Distington Hematite Iron Co., Ltd., a director of the Workington Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., and was associated with other industrial enterprises in the district.
In January 1916 he was returned to Parliament as the Liberal representative of the Whitehaven division, and retired in October 1909. He represented the Benzol and Chemical Department on the West Cumberland Munitions Committee.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1912.

69. Miles Fleming BURNYEAT, son of William BURNYEAT and Sarah Frances DALZELL, was born in 1879 in Whitehaven R.D. He married Dorothy Catherine CLOUGH on 19 January 1915 in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada. He died in 1935 in Whitehaven R.D..

William M.C. Burnyeat, M.C. - Educated at Shrewsbury School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, U.S.A. Former Director of The New Sharlston Collieries Co. Ltd., Yorks. ; Lancaster's Steam Coal Collieries Ltd., Monmouthshire ; The Swansea Navigation Collieries Ltd., Glam. Director of Cawood Wharton & Co. Ltd., Yorks. ; and Burnyeat, Dalzell & Nicholson Ltd. General Manager of Messrs. Richard Thomas & Baldwins' Collieries and all Colliery Subsidiaries. Commenced mining in 1903 with Messrs. Burnyeat, Brown & Co. Private Address: "Beechwood," Walton, near Wakefield.
He passed through the port of Boston Massachusetts in 1903, presumably on his way to study at M.I.T.
Captain in the Monmouthshire regiment during the1914/18 war and was honoured with his MC in the 1918 birthday honours list - Captain William Maurice Brownlie Burnyeat of the Monmouthshire Regiment.
An Extract only: - "The General Staff decided that mining on a much larger scale was needed and accordingly the 3rd Battalion Monmouthshire Regiment whilst based at Steenwoorde, received orders to provide 1 Officer and party of 40 other ranks. A more suitable task could not have been chosen as the majority of men in the battalion were peace time miners. Lt G.W. Lancaster who was a peace time Mining Engineer and the other ranks made their way by motor bus from Steenwoorde to Ypres on 27th February 1915. They were joined by a similar party from the 1st Battalion Monmouthshire Regiment under the command of Lt Burnyeat also a Mining Engineer. The Monmouthshire’s were attached to the Northumbrian Field Company Royal Engineers under the command of Major Pollard D.S.O. They were billeted in the Convent School in the Rue de Lille in the shadow of the famous Cloth Hall in Ypres. On the 1st March, St David’s Day, Lt Burnyeat attempted to take a party up to the front at St Eloi, to commence mining operations but due to heavy shelling by the enemy this proved impossible. On the 3rd March Lt Lancaster led a party to the front unfortunately whilst moving up the line Pte Pat Lewis was injured. The enemy shelling continued and Lt Lancaster had no choice but to lead the men back. During the move he was seriously wounded and had to be carried to the Field Ambulance station to receive treatment. He was eventually returned to England. The men were given a few days rest after the idea of mining at St Eloi was abandoned".
