Wood of Redhow

Wood of Redhow

by Chris Dickinson

The Wood family seem to have been the only occupiers of Redhow when the parish registers start in 1581. When the senior male line died out, the estate went to the eldest daughter before being purchased by the Dickinsons of Woodend. In 1819, both Woodend and Redhow were purchased by Joseph Dickinson, formerly of Streetgate.

Redhow [usually now spelt Red How], as above, is a manor house built in the 1820s, not quite on the site of the old farm house. However, this map does show where the estate was in relation to its immediate neighbours.
