John possibly lived into his 70s. There is no record in Lamplugh of his baptism, or his marriage, or his wife's name. There is no probate. He's not, as far as I'm aware, mentioned in anyone else's probate. He died just before the Protestation when he would have been listed.
At least, we have baptisms for his children and a record of his burial in Lamplugh - 14-10-1637.
He had eight children: Annas (baptised 12-09-1593, buried 28-08-1612), Elizabeth (baptised 05-10-1595), John (baptised 24-09-1599, buried 15-11-1599), Janet (baptised 28-10-1601, buried 11-11-1601), Alice (baptised 04-11-1604, buried 08-11-1604), Janet (baptised 14-03-1606), Henry (baptised 28-05-1609) and John (baptised 23-07-1613).
Children
Elizabeth Wood (1595-1657) of Redhow
I feel rather sorry for her brother Henry (or, at any rate, for his wife) - an unmarried sister, fourteen years older than him, living at home into her sixties.
Elizabeth was buried 27-03-1657 in Lamplugh. There is no probate until the Restoration, her inventory being dated 17-02-1661/2 with the bond also in February. This indicates that she had some property (maybe a share in the farm, or a legacy). I don't have any details to hand.
The administrators, however, were her brother Henry and her 'sister' [as described in the bond] Dorothy Wood. The latter was actually her sister-in-law, wife of her brother John, and is proof that he established the family offshoot at Murton Hole. Both Henry and Dorothy marked. Dorothy was a Dickinson of Woodend.
Henry Wood (1609-1675/6) of Redhow
Henry was baptised 28-05-1609 and inherited Redhow. He married (when he was described as Henry Ward) 17-11-1636 in Lamplugh to Mary Wilson. They had children: John (baptised 23-08-1638), Henry (baptised 22-11-1640), William (baptised 12-02-1643), Janet (baptised 07-09-1645), Thomas (baptised 28-06-1648), Annas (baptised 29-12-1650), George (baptised 10-04-1653), and Aaron (baptised 10-04-1656).
John Wood (1613-1658) of Murton Hole
John was baptised 23-06-1613. He married Dorothy Dickinson (baptised 1617) of Woodend and they had one child, Henry, baptised 27-05-1655. The marriage isn't recorded. Quite possibly, John had married into Murton Hole earlier and Dorothy was a second wife.
He was buried 27-05-1658, the inventory being taken 01-06-1658 (valued at £50 11s 1d), and the probate delayed until 08-01-1661/2. The executor was his widow Dorothy, and the bondsmen were John Dickinson of Woodend [his brother-in-law] and Henry Wood of Redhow [his brother].
The line continued in Murton into at least the late eighteenth century.
