St Bees 1609 St Bees School Leases and Quitclaims

The leases of lands in Sandwith and St Bees were granted by the governors of St Bees School for 1000 years from January 31 1609.  Prior to the granting of the lease tenants appear to have been required to quitclaim right and title to their lands in order to cancel the 50 year leases made in 1560 by Sir Thomas Chaloner.
