The Dickinson surname appears at a number of farms in the Manor of Lamplugh and Arlecdon around 1600, but rarely in surrounding parishes. This does suggest that the surname goes back a long way in the area, and that these families have some common Dickinson ancestor.

First recorded in 1590.
The neighbouring farm of Redhow was purchased in 1752
The senior male line died out in 1780, with inheritance going to a daughter.
Joseph Dickinson of Streetgate bought Woodend and Redhow in the nineteenth century, creating the Red How Estate, which is still owned by his descendants.

Dickinson owned at least as late as 1777.

First recorded in 1597.
Seems to have passed by inheritance to a Beeby family in 1707.
