Mirehouse, Richard, of Mockerkin in Loweswater (-1605)
Richard spoke his will on the last day of August 1605.
His widow, Agnes, was executrix. John Mirehouse of Mockerkin, yeoman, was a bondsman, so probably a brother.
[the probate of Isabel Jenkinson of Loweswater in 1608 mentions 'John Mirehouse of Mockerkin elder' and 'John Mirehouse of Mockerkin younger' - probably father and son, brother and nephew to Richard. As John was described as a yeoman in Richard's probate bond, it seems likely that the tenement was split between the two brothers]
Richard named only one son in his will: Richard. He mentioned a daughter Ellen Mirehouse (presumably unmarried). His daughter Margaret married Robert Fox, described as his son-in-law in the will, in Dean 27-06-1602.
He made bequests to his grandchildren, without naming them. He gave them each 4d, which rather suggests that there were three (4dx3 = 1 shilling).
The witnesses to the will were: Lawrence Wilson, William Pearson [William Pearson of Mockerkin (-1627)], John Mirehouse elder [above] and John Pearson of Mockerkin. The same four prized the inventory.
The inventory, taken 05-09-1605, was valued at £44 13s 6d, and the bond was set at double that at £80. The inventory shows this was a working farm.
There is a marriage in Dean 10-06-1554 between a Richard Mirehouse and an Ellen Scott. A first marriage perhaps with Agnes being a second wife?
