Summary
This potential family essentially consists of three halves: a Pearson family who are of 'Branthwaite' going back to the sixteenth century, a Pearson family of 'Branthwaite Gate' extending into the eighteenth century; and a Pearson family of 'Branthwaite Edge', also eighteenth century.
They are probably the same family, but at least two generations are missing between the earlier and later sections.

Pearson of Branthwaite
This family history starts with Christopher Pearson of Branrhwaite, who died in 1591. He was a Churchwarden, a post that was usually filled by the more powerful yeoman families of the parish. He married twice, to Jane and Agnes, having two children by each wife (William and Janet; Mabel and Ellinor).
His son, William Pearson of Branthwaite, inherited.
There is no probate for William, but the parish register records his children - John (1603-), Ellen (1609-), Agnes (1611-), Thomas (1613-14) and Christopher (1615-). Both John and Christopher were in the Protestation.
