The St Bees Protestation is one of the more detailed as it lists both men and women.
The preamble states:
A true list of the inhabitants within the pishe of St Bees conssenting to the ptestation made in the yeare 1641/43
[the 1/43 could read 2/43 - the numbers have been written in a smaller script later]
The list was taken by Pickering Hewer, later curate of Lamplugh parish.
The list includes a final page of refusals.
