Danson, William, of Mockerkin in Loweswater (-1644)

Yeoman. Second son of Peter Danson of Mockerkin.

Literate - his inventory listed 'a bible and other books'.

Brother of John Danson of Mockerkin and Thomas Danson (-1668) of Little Clifton in Workington, and half-brother of John Danson als Pearson (1595-1664) of Todhole in Lamplugh.

He had five surviving children. John, already an 'adult' in 1646, inherited. The other four were minors: William, Peter, Isabel and Agnes.

John Danson als Pearson made bequests in his 1664 will to William Peter and Agnes Danson, then to John, then to John Taylor's wife of Whinbank - she was Isabel.

William's widow married John Pearson of Mockerkin in 1646/7.

One debt in his probate inventory, about a third of the total at £8 17s, was owed to his brother John Danson [als Pearson]. Normally, such a large debt would come from an earlier legacy that hadn't been handed on, but in this case the sum isn't a standard one. It seems more likely that John loaned him money or co-invested in some project.

Willam's debts added up to £29 07 08, but are stated at £29 17 8d. The bond penalty is set at £200 (about double the inventory and debts added together).
